Title: Sexton
Title Reports to: Minister, works closely with Building and Grounds Chair
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Hours and schedule: 8 hours per week, flexible, some evening hours may be required
Gross Pay: $22 hr
SEXTON RESPONSIBILITIES The purpose of the Sexton is to keep the MUUF building and grounds clean and orderly; perform basic preventative maintenance and repairs; set up church/rooms for use as needed. Keep Building & Grounds Chair and Minister advised of dangers/concerns about the condition and maintenance of buildings and grounds. Keep and maintain a 30-day supply of regularly used cleaning and maintenance supplies. Full set of tasks is listed below.
QUALIFICATIONS: Able to lift 50 to 75 pounds. Highly desired intermediate to basic knowledge in all building systems, such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, security systems, general carpentry, painting, and roofing. Intermediate knowledge of repair trades, work safety requirements, and repair procedures as well as janitorial and housekeeping skills
Experience:
Demonstrated history of at least three years of hands-on experience in property or facility maintenance work. Construction experience preferred. Intermediate janitorial skills and basic maintenance experience in areas such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, etc.

Tasks of Sexton:
Annually:
a. Kitchen deep clean, oven, microwave, refrigerator, building cleaning
b. Steam clean carpets
c. Ensure that all fire code regulations are followed, fire extinguishers fully charged and arrange for annual fire department inspections.
Semi Annually:
a. Replace HVAC air filter in floor register
b. Clean air vents
c. Keep supply closet clean and organized
d. Make sure security cameras are functioning properly.
e. Trim hedges and edge sidewalks
Monthly:
a. Mow grass at least monthly towards the end of the week, twice a month during rainy season.
b. Run Sprinklers as needed
c. Weed flower and shrubbery areas.
d. Count inventory to determine list of needed housekeeping and maintenance supplies and provide list to Office Administrator.
e. Wipe down woodwork
f. Clean all windowsills in the church
g. Wash glass entry doors
h. Dust office areas
i. Set up and take down tables & chairs for monthly potluck; other similarly scheduled events
j. Monitor parking lot for areas of concern
Weekly:
a. Dust/ Vacuum All Carpeted areas
b. Sweep/mop hard surfaces including kitchens and bathrooms
c. Clean / wipe all counter tops including kitchens and bathrooms
d. Clean/ wipe all doors and areas of touch points (knobs, handles)
e. Clean sanitize toilets / sinks
f. Check with minister regarding any upcoming events
g. Clean up all materials left on chairs
h. Remove trash from all rooms/ kitchen and place in outside bins, once a week take bins to curb for pick up
i. Pick up litter from lawn and walkways.
j. Notify Minister and Building and Grounds Chair of any issues that may arise in relation to heating, plumbing, deck, outdoor landscaping, or the building.
Daily:
a. Maintain time log of work, start / finish, submit end of month to Minister/ Office Administrator.
b. Check all restrooms and keep in clean condition
c. Check sidewalks for unsafe conditions
d. Control light and heat to minimize waste
As Needed:
a. Serve as the liaison contact, for vendor technicians and tradesmen hired to perform work on Church property.
b. Replace light bulbs, clean fixtures
c. Set up tables and chairs, take down and store afterwards.
d. Make minor repairs on furniture.
e. Prepare building for Hurricane safety including having dangerous tree limbs removed.
f. Other duties as required.
