1985 Formosa 47 center cockpit, cutter rigged sailboat, 7’ Draft
This is an amazing boat! First, the bad news. It has a Ford Lehman that was rebuilt and has 359.5 hours. It broke a rod, which came out through the side of the block.
This was a one-owner boat before us. The original owner commissioned it, and the build was carefully overseen in Taiwan as it was being constructed. It has been refit several times over its lifetime. This vessel was maintained with an open checkbook. Bottom was cleaned once a month. After Hurricane Ian in 2024, there was damage to the stainless railing at the bow. It was completely rebuilt, as well as the samson post for the anchor. During Hurricane Milton, the boat sustained some cosmetic damage, including damage to the gel coat and the stainless rub rail, which has not yet been repaired. It has zero water intrusion below the water line, not a drop! It does have some from the deck. Spots that I have found include the fuel fill port, the windless switches, and a stanchion that was slightly damaged in the hurricane. I have found no soft spots in the boat.
The boat has 10 shrouds, 2 forestays and 1 backstay. All running rigging runs to the cockpit for ease of line handling.
I have an album with over 100 photos. Ask for the link.
