Newly installed puncture resistant road tires and tubes, seat, seat collar, bar ends, skewers, brake pads, chain and sprockets just a few months ago bring this vintage 1995 steel-framed Fuji Taiwan-made bike up to 21st Century standards.
Nothing rides as smooth as a steel bike and, what most people don't know, is the steel frames from the 1990s are lighter than modern alloy frames. Steel is stronger, so the frame tubes did not have to be as large and thick-walled.
Originally categorized as a non-suspension mountain bike and equipped with knobbies, the bike is now a 21-speed fast riding flat-bar hybrid with center-pull braking and 1.5" wide road tread tires. It is not in brand new cosmetic condition but looks just 3 years old instead of 30.
Why buy a soft metal geared stone-heavy Walmart bike when this Fuji is available for less?
